Gudalur parties call two-day strike after tiger attacks kill two
Following the deaths of two men in tiger attacks, political parties and traders in Gudalur have called for a two-day general strike on August 27 and 28, urging the forest department to prevent such incidents.
After two men died in tiger attacks at Lauriston in O-Valley Town Panchayat, representatives of several political parties and traders have called for a two-day general strike on August 27 and 28 across the Gudalur Assembly constituency. The strike aims to press the forest department to take steps to prevent wild animal attacks in the region.
A meeting held at the DMK's Gudalur MLA office on Saturday evening was attended by representatives of major parties, including BJP, Congress, VCK, CPI, CPM, NTK, DMDK, and SDPI. They sought cooperation from traders, autorickshaw and taxi drivers for the strike. Traders have agreed to shut grocery shops, and auto and call taxi operators will stay off the roads.
The meeting also passed a resolution demanding the release of VCK and DYFI functionaries who were arrested during a protest held on August 21 after the deaths.
