Inquiry ordered after video shows Class 8 girl cleaning school floor in Dindigul
The School Education Department has initiated an inquiry after a viral video allegedly showed a 13-year-old student cleaning floors at a government-aided school in Dindigul district. The school's headmistress claimed the girl swept willingly.
The School Education Department has ordered an inquiry after a viral video allegedly showed a 13-year-old Class 8 student cleaning floors at a government-aided school in Shanarpatti, near Natham taluk, Dindigul district.
According to sources, the school has more than 400 students and 11 teaching staff members. It is alleged that Class 8 students were made to sweep the floors of a kindergarten classroom because the housekeeping staff was not available on Monday morning.
After a parent raised the issue with teachers and then with the headmistress, the headmistress reportedly claimed that the girl willingly swept the floor and that nobody, including any teacher, pressured her.
Another parent recorded the act and shared the video on social media, where it went viral, prompting the department to initiate an inquiry.
