Inquiry ordered after video shows Class 8 girl cleaning school floor in Dindigul
The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has initiated an inquiry after a viral video allegedly showed a 13-year-old student cleaning a classroom floor at a government-aided school in Dindigul district. The school's headmistress said the girl cleaned voluntarily.
The School Education Department has begun an inquiry after a viral video allegedly showed a 13-year-old Class 8 girl being made to clean floors at a government-aided school in Shanarpatti, near Natham taluk in Dindigul district.
According to sources, the school has more than 400 students and 11 teaching staff members. It was alleged that Class 8 students were made to sweep the floors of a kindergarten classroom because housekeeping staff were not available on Monday morning.
When one parent confronted teachers about the incident, they did not respond. The issue was then raised with the headmistress, who claimed that the girl willingly swept the floor and that no one, including any teacher, pressured her.
Another parent recorded the act and shared the video on social media, where it went viral, prompting the department to launch the inquiry.
