Karnataka has filed an appeal before the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) seeking a reduction in daily water releases to Tamil Nadu from the ordered 9,000 cusecs to 2,000 cusecs. The move comes ahead of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee's (CWRC) scheduled meeting on September 8 to review the ground situation.

Karnataka has approached the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) with an appeal to lower the mandated water releases to Tamil Nadu from 9,000 cusecs per day to 2,000 cusecs per day. The CWMA had previously upheld the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee's (CWRC) August 25 direction requiring Karnataka to maintain a flow of 9,000 cusecs per day for 15 days starting August 25, as measured at the Biligundlu gauge on the inter-State border. Under that order, the total releases to Tamil Nadu would amount to 11.66 tmcft.
The appeal is filed ahead of the CWRC's scheduled September 8 meeting to reassess the prevailing situation. The CWMA is also slated to meet the same day to review the matter.
