Kovilpatti kadalaimittai price rises to Rs 270/kg on raw material costs
The price of Kovilpatti kadalaimittai, a GI-tagged sweet, has been increased by 25% to Rs 270 per kg, the second revision this year, citing higher costs of groundnuts, jaggery, cardamom and packaging materials.
The price of Kovilpatti kadalaimittai has been raised by 25%, from Rs 220 to Rs 270 per kg, effective immediately from Tuesday. This is the second price revision for the GI-tagged sweet this year; the earlier hike was made in January.
K Kannan, secretary of the Kadalaimittai Manufacturers and Traders Association, said the association decided on the increase due to a sharp rise in raw material costs, including groundnuts, jaggery, cardamom and packaging materials.
Kovilpatti, in Thoothukudi district, is a major cluster of groundnut candy manufacturers, producing several hundred kilograms of kadalaimittai every day. Manufacturers said the prices of key raw materials have risen significantly in recent months.
