The Madras High Court said God does not discriminate and directed the Tamil Nadu government to ensure no discrimination at the Devaraja Swamigal Temple in Kanchipuram, including in distribution of theertham, satari and prasadam.
A division bench of the Madras High Court, comprising Justices G Jayachandran and E Manoharan, has directed the Tamil Nadu government to ensure that no discrimination is followed at the Devaraja Swamigal Temple in Kanchipuram, including in the distribution of theertham, satari and prasadams. The court observed that all living beings are equal before God and that God does not discriminate.
The order came on a plea by Madhavan Ramanuja Dasan, who sought a direction to prohibit alleged discrimination against non-Brahmin devotees of the Thenkalai cult in the distribution of prasadam and theerthams, and in the recitation of Tamil Prabandhams and other practices in the temple.
Responding to the plea, special government pleader R Bharanidharan submitted that there is no discrimination in the temple. Recording the submission, the bench passed the order.
