The Madras High Court has issued notice to two authors and a publisher in a civil suit filed by Dravidar Kazhagam leader K Veeramani, who alleges a book attributes 'wilful and malicious' statements about the annihilation of Brahmins to rationalist leader Periyar. Veeramani seeks Rs 1 crore and one thousand in damages.

The Madras High Court has directed two authors and a publisher to file a counter-affidavit by September 9 in a civil suit filed by Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) leader K Veeramani. The suit alleges that a book attributes 'wilful and malicious' statements to late rationalist leader 'Thanthai' Periyar regarding the annihilation of Brahmins in the state.
Justice K Govindarajan Thilakavadi issued notice to authors Gautam R Desiraju of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and Deekhit Bhattacharya of Delhi, as well as publisher BluOne Ink Pvt Ltd, based in Noida. The court adjourned the hearing to September 10.
Veeramani filed the suit in his capacity as secretary of The Periyar Self-Respect Propaganda Institution. He is seeking Rs 1 crore and one thousand in damages from the publisher and authors.
