The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Tuesday directed state authorities to submit a status report on the condition of social justice hostels in 10 Tamil Nadu districts. The order was issued during a hearing on a public interest litigation filed by K Muruganandam, district coordinator of Neelam Panpattu Maiyam in Pudukkottai.
The petitioner said RTI responses about social justice hostels in Madurai, Tiruchy, Ramanathapuram, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Tenkasi, Thanjavur and Pudukkottai revealed that many hostels are in a dilapidated condition, with some requiring demolition. The bench of justices CV Karthikeyan and R Sakthivel sought the status report from the state authorities.
