Madurai city police have denied allegations that a 54-year-old man died from custodial assault, saying he told them he fell at home. The man, Paramesivam of Mel Anuppanadi, died of head injuries in a private hospital on August 16.
Madurai city police have refuted allegations by the wife of a 54-year-old man from Mel Anuppanadi that he died from custodial assault. The man, Paramesivam of TNHB Colony, died of head injuries in a private hospital on August 16.
In a press release on Tuesday, police said Paramesivam had a dispute with neighbours Malathi and her husband Balakrishnan on July 17 over parking a vehicle. Both sides sustained injuries and were admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital. Paramesivam, his wife Ayyammal, their son, and the neighbours were arrested on July 23 and released on station bail.
Police said Paramesivam subsequently fell while at his house on July 24. After developing a headache and vomiting, he was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital on August 5. During a police inquiry, he allegedly stated that he fell down on his own.
The wife's allegation of assault and the police denial remain unresolved in the available information.
