The water level in the Stanley Reservoir at Mettur in Salem district has risen to 88.84 feet as of 8 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, against the reservoir's full level of 120 feet. Storage stood at 51.33 tmc ft. The rise follows increased release from reservoirs in Karnataka, raising hopes of water release for Delta irrigation.

Although water is customarily released from the dam on June 12 every year, benefiting around 16 lakh acres in the delta districts, this was not possible this year due to inadequate storage. However, with the level likely to touch 90 feet soon, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay is expected to announce the water release on August 28.

Salem Collector K. Elambahavath inspected the dam on Wednesday and held discussions with officials of the Water Resources Department.
