Mother seeks arrest of headmistress after Dalit girl's suicide in Madurai
The mother of a 16-year-old Scheduled Caste girl who died by suicide has complained to the Madurai district collector, demanding the arrest of a government school headmistress who allegedly insulted them when they sought admission.
The mother of a 16-year-old Scheduled Caste girl, P Nisanthi, who died by suicide on August 25, has lodged a complaint with the Madurai district collector demanding the arrest of Vimaladevi, the caste Hindu headmistress of Government Model Higher Secondary School in Usilampatti.
The petitioner, P Thavamani (40) of Ambedkar Nagar in Thottapanayakanur, said her daughter ended her life after the headmistress insulted them and ordered them to leave the school premises on August 24 when they arrived seeking admission.
Recalling the incident, Thavamani told mediapersons that both she and her daughter were asked to wait for more than 30 minutes before they went inside the room. She alleged that the headmistress was not convinced about the girl's admission and humiliated them. The complaint seeks the headmistress's arrest in connection with the girl's death.
