Nilgiris police meet college heads on student safety, anti-drug policy

The Nilgiris district police held a district-wide coordination meeting with college administrations to address student safety, security, and welfare on higher education campuses. The initiative involved heads of colleges across the district.

District Superintendent of Police S. Brinda informed attendees about a strict 'zero-tolerance policy' against drug consumption and trafficking in and around campuses, according to a police press release.

College managements were directed to actively track behavioural shifts among students, physical or dental indicators of substance abuse, and unexplained chronic absenteeism. They were also given mandatory instructions to report any suspicious activities to the local police immediately.

The meeting also focused on promoting mental health and security measures for students, according to the police summary.
