Four months after land identification and fund allocation, work on Tamil Nadu's first Medical Devices Testing Laboratory has stalled due to pending paperwork. The project, planned on one acre inside the Coimbatore Medical College campus, is awaiting approval from the Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP). Because the land is within two kilometres of the airport, clearance from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) is also required. A Public Works Department official said that even though the building is planned as a single-storey structure, the area falls under the airport zone (red zone), making approval mandatory for construction, which is delaying the work.
