More than 20 Ph.D. scholars registered at a government-aided college in Madurai district are unable to complete and submit their theses because the college administration has not paid research centre fees to Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) for more than seven years, according to officials and a scholar. Students said they had paid the required fees to the college management.
A part-time scholar who enrolled nearly eight years ago said he has not yet completed his Ph.D. He said he submitted his research form (J-form) to MKU's research department two years ago, but approval was delayed and he faced repeated follow-ups.
An official said the college has now cleared its dues for the Chemistry and Botany research centres, but still owes more than Rs 10 lakh towards the other research centres.
