The Railway Board has identified 103 heritage railway stations, including Tiruchi Junction and Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu, for 'Station Mahotsav' celebrations based on their date of inception. Several other Southern Railway stations are also on the list.

The Railway Board in New Delhi has identified 103 heritage railway stations across the country for organising 'Station Mahotsav' (birthday celebrations) according to their date of inception. Tiruchi Junction and Chidambaram are among the stations selected in the Southern Railway zone. Other Southern Railway stations on the list include Tiruvannamalai, Pattukottai, Thiruvananthapuram, Mettupalayam, Kallar, Hillgrove, Coonoor, Wellington, Aravankadu, Ketti, Lovedale and Udhagamandalam. The stations from Mettupalayam to Udhagamandalam are categorised under heritage. The Railway Board has suggested a series of programmes for various railway zones to be held in connection with the proposed Station Mahotsav at the identified stations.
