Fair price shop employees in Thanjavur taluk say they have been unable to distribute rations for 15 days due to glitches in point-of-sale devices, prompting them to submit the machines to the Taluk Supply Officer.

Employees of 91 fair price shops in Thanjavur taluk have reported that ration distribution to family cardholders has been affected for the past 15 days because of glitches in point-of-sale (POS) machines supplied to the shops. About 80 employees, accompanied by office-bearers of the Tamil Nadu Government Fair Price Shop Employees’ Union, arrived at the office of the Taluk Supply Officer in Thanjavur on August 21 and handed over the POS machines, stating they were not working properly due to server problems. Officials said they had received information that distribution had been disrupted at some shops in recent days because of a server issue and had initiated steps to resolve the problem.
