Residents of Nedumpirai village in Tiruvannamalai district blocked the Moranam-Vembakkam Main Road and stopped seven trucks carrying blue metal, alleging the vehicles damaged water pipelines and roads serving Nedumpirai and Moranam villages.

Residents of Nedumpirai village, about five kilometres from Cheyyar town in Tiruvannamalai district, blocked the Moranam – Vembakkam Main Road and stopped seven trucks and tipper lorries that were carrying loads of blue metal to nearby towns. The residents alleged that heavily loaded lorries from nearby stone quarries and crushing units have been moving round-the-clock through the area for over a fortnight. They said this movement damaged the road stretch and the main water pipeline that supplies water to Nedumpirai and Moranam villages. The residents also said rash driving by lorry drivers posed a risk to the lives of women in the area. The vehicles were stopped during the blockade.
