Southern Zonal Council to meet near Mamallapuram on August 20
The 31st Southern Zonal Council meeting, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will be held on August 20 near Mamallapuram. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will be vice-chairman, and the state government is hosting the meeting.
The 31st meeting of the Southern Zonal Council is scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at a private hotel near Mamallapuram, about 40 km south of Chennai. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the meeting, and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will serve as vice-chairman. Shah arrived in Chennai on Wednesday evening. The meeting is set to begin around 10 a.m. and last about four hours.
The meeting is organized by the Inter-State Council Secretariat under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, with the Tamil Nadu government hosting this edition. The Council's recommendations are advisory in nature.
