Stalin calls dropping of Parandur airport project an irreversible setback

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin criticised the state government's decision to drop the Parandur international airport project, calling it an "irreversible setback" for Tamil Nadu's growth. The decision was announced by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay in the Assembly under Rule 110, without a debate.

Stalin said making such a far-reaching announcement without allowing members to voice their views was "deeply troubling." He noted that Tamil Nadu's position as a leader in electronics exports and automobiles made a world-class airport in Chennai essential. "Rejecting such a vital project is not change. It is a massive disappointment," he said.

The former chief minister said dropping the project would set the state's development back by several years.
