Tamil Nadu announces new SIPCOT industrial parks and worker housing
Industries Minister S. Keerthana announced new SIPCOT industrial parks in Thoothukudi, Villupuram, and Namakkal, plus a ₹130-crore housing project for over 2,500 workers at Gangaikondan, during the Assembly demand for grants.
Tamil Nadu Industries Minister S. Keerthana, speaking in the Assembly on Tuesday (August 25, 2026) during the demand for grants for her department, announced a series of new industrial parks and a worker accommodation project.
The Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department will build safe residential accommodation for more than 2,500 workers employed at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Gangaikondan under Phase II development. The project, estimated at ₹130 crore, will be executed by Tamil Nadu Industrial Housing Private Limited (TNIHPL), a special purpose vehicle, with public and private participation.
A new SIPCOT industrial park is planned at Mudivaithanendhal in Thoothukudi, covering 2,570 acres at an estimated cost of ₹1,390 crore. The park will house clean and renewable energy-based industries and is expected to attract about ₹5,000 crore in investment and create around 20,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Additionally, a 1,294-acre EV manufacturing park will be set up at Sillanatham in Thoothukudi, targeting ₹7,000 crore in investment and 10,000 jobs. Smaller industrial parks are planned at Omandur in Villupuram and Lathuvadi in Namakkal, each expected to attract around ₹1,000 crore in investment.
