Tamil Nadu Minister for Minorities Welfare A.M. Shahjahan announced in the Assembly on August 27, 2026, that the state government will establish a new women's college in Chennai at a cost of ₹2.45 crore through the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board. The college is intended to benefit girl students from religious minority communities.

The minister also announced a new scheme to enable Muslim girl students to pursue higher education. Under the scheme, the state government will bear the tuition fees for undergraduate courses for students admitted under the government quota in government, government-aided, and self-financing colleges. An allocation of ₹20 crore has been made for the scheme this year, according to the minister.
