The Tamil Nadu government has appointed ministers as in-charge for each of the 15 zones of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to speed up development work and coordinate emergency relief during disasters. A Government Order issued by Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar states that, on the direction of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, Public Works and Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna, the minister in-charge of Chennai district, will serve as coordinator for all 15 zones. A separate order appoints IAS officers as monitoring officers for every zone. These officers will ensure that relief measures reach residents during the northeast monsoon and will track the progress of development projects in their assigned zones.
