Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced free LPG cylinders for 1.34 crore families, expanded free bus travel for women to more bus types, and said the proposed Parandur airport project has been dropped.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced on Monday that three LPG cylinders would be provided free every year to about 1.34 crore families, including households with an annual income of up to Rs. 2.5 lakh. He also announced the 'Vettri Payanam Thittam' scheme, expanding free bus travel for women beyond ordinary buses to include mofussil buses between districts, as well as express and deluxe buses operated by MTC in Chennai and transport corporations in Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchy and other cities. The scheme takes effect on October 2. Vijay further stated that the proposed second airport at Parandur has been dropped and that the government is exploring alternative sites.
