Tamil Nadu discom ends physical inspection for small domestic power connections
The Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (TNPDCL) will no longer require physical inspection of premises for new low-tension domestic electricity connections up to 4 kW, effective August 28, provided no extension or improvement work is involved. Applications must be made online with geographical coordinates.
Consumers in Tamil Nadu applying for new low-tension (LT) domestic single-phase electricity connections of up to 4 kW will no longer need a physical inspection of their premises by TNPDCL officials, provided the connection does not involve any extension or improvement work.
The new procedure takes effect from August 28. TNPDCL Director (Distribution) L Leena issued instructions to all Chief Engineers and Superintending Engineers detailing the change.
Under the new system, eligible applicants can submit their applications and supporting documents online, and TNPDCL will not insist on hard copies. Applicants will also have to provide the geographical coordinates of the premises through the web portal.
The coordinates submitted by the consumer will be verified as part of the process. The move is intended to streamline the application process for domestic connections.
