Tamil Nadu Farmers Welcome Chief Minister's Water-Sharing Stance

A farmers' body in Tamil Nadu has backed Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's stand on inter-State water sharing, made at the Southern Zonal Council meeting in Mamallapuram. The Tamil Nadu All Farmers Organisation Coordination Committee, through its president P.R. Pandian, welcomed the Chief Minister's observation that approaching water disputes with mutual trust, scientific evidence, and respect for the law would protect the interests of riparian States and strengthen cooperative federalism. The committee sought the implementation of Supreme Court directions on the Mullaperiyar and Cauvery issues without fail by the riparian States, and urged the State government to pursue legal courses until Tamil Nadu's settled rights in the Cauvery and Mullaperiyar are secured.
