The Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine in Tamil Nadu said it is closely monitoring the seasonal influenza situation in the state. In a press release issued on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the Health Department said that although seasonal influenza cases were reported during the present monsoon season, the situation remains under control. The department advised the public not to be alarmed about H1N1 or seasonal influenza. People were urged to seek medical help if they develop symptoms and to take precautionary measures such as frequent handwashing and maintaining respiratory hygiene while coughing and sneezing. The department said wearing masks is generally not necessary. It added that year-round surveillance of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infections is being conducted.
