Tamil Nadu Social Justice Minister Vanni Arasu announced in the Assembly that monthly food allowances for SC/ST hostel students will be increased, maintenance allowances will be raised, and 150 new hostels will be built.

Tamil Nadu Minister for Social Justice Vanni Arasu announced in the Assembly on Thursday that the monthly food allowance for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) school hostel students will be increased from ₹1,400 to ₹1,800, and for college hostel students from ₹1,500 to ₹2,000. The State government has allocated ₹200 crore for this purpose.
The Minister also announced that the annual maintenance allowance for school hostels for SC and ST students will be raised from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000, and for college hostels from ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh. In addition, the government plans to build 150 new hostels to create a conducive environment for SC and ST students to pursue their education.
