Tamil Nadu dairy farmers say they will stop supplying milk to Aavin from August 24 unless the procurement price is raised to ₹44 a litre, citing rising input costs.

The Tamil Nadu Milk Producers' Welfare Association has announced that its members will stop supplying milk to cooperative milk societies from August 24 unless the government revises the procurement price to ₹44 a litre. Association president R. Rajendran said the increase in the procurement price announced by Chief Minister C. Joseph Viay was “meagre.” He noted that the procurement price had not been revised since 2022, when it was increased by ₹3 a litre. In December 2023, the then government sanctioned an incentive of ₹3 a litre. Since then, the cost of cattle feed and other inputs has risen sharply, and the price offered by Aavin no longer covers production costs. Rajendran added that private milk dairies are offering better prices.
