In Madurai, Law Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar said Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will decide on action against Chief Secretary Dr M. Sai Kumar. The statement came amid protests by the CPM, an ally of the TVK, demanding the Chief Secretary's removal. The CPM alleges Sai Kumar ordered a circular directing officials to monitor students participating in protests organised by Left parties and 'Cockroach Janta Party'.
Nirmal Kumar said the government had no role in the circular. He said higher education is still under the Governor's control and the government is trying to bring it under state control, including by filling vacancies of vice-chancellor posts.
On the upcoming consecration at the Meenakshi temple, the minister said a review meeting was held and the arrangement plan will be released in a week.
