Tamil Nadu MLAs to get cars, assistants for constituency work, CM announces

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced in the Assembly on Wednesday that all MLAs will be provided with a car and an assistant to carry out constituency work efficiently and ensure government schemes reach the people. Making a suo motu statement, he said ₹75,000 would be provided every month towards car maintenance, fuel, and a driver, and the assistant would receive ₹25,000 per month. He added that necessary amendments to the law would be made and orders issued. The announcement followed a request by L.E. Jothimani, MLA for Kattumannarkoil, who said on August 12 that many MLAs did not have cars and were unable to undertake constituency work and inspections.
