Tamil Nadu's rural development department has announced a ₹3,384 crore allocation for rural infrastructure projects for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. The plan includes upgrading 3,200 km of panchayat and village roads at a cost of ₹1,634 crore, and laying gravel, cement and paver-block roads over 1,900 km for ₹1,000 crore. The department will also desilt 7,500 km of waterways and carry out groundwater recharge initiatives. Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister N Anand made the announcement during the department's demand for grants.
