The Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department will build 27 check dams across 13 districts at a cost of ₹206.75 crore to conserve floodwater and recharge groundwater, Minister N. Anand announced in the Assembly. He also said two bed dams would be built in districts such as Madurai for ₹31.50 crore to curb riverbed erosion.

Water Resources Minister N. Anand told the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Wednesday that the Water Resources Department (WRD) will construct 27 check dams across 13 districts at a cost of ₹206.75 crore to conserve floodwater and harness groundwater. The announcement came during the discussion on the Demands for Grants for the WRD.
One of the check dams will be built across the Amaravati river near Melapalayam village in Karur district. The minister also said two bed dams would be constructed in districts such as Madurai at a cost of ₹31.50 crore to arrest riverbed erosion and facilitate groundwater recharge.
Mr. Anand invited MLAs to participate in monthly meetings, along with WRD officials, to discuss constituency-level issues and find immediate solutions.
