Tamil Nadu to scrap 'slow-learner' label, introduce AI-based learning schemes
The Tamil Nadu school education minister announced new schemes including AI-based personalised learning, an entrepreneurship curriculum, and a higher education guidance app, saying students will no longer be called slow-learners.
In the state assembly, Tamil Nadu school education minister A Rajmohan presented the demand for grants for the school education department. He said the department will focus on teaching methods and student well-being to make students future-ready.
The minister announced several new initiatives. These include an AI-based personalised-learning module for government middle school students, a 'TN-Arivu curriculum' to develop entrepreneurial skills and analytical thinking, an AI-based higher education guidance app for government school students, and the 'Mathichudar' scheme to expose students to higher-order thinking skill (HOTS) and competency questions.
For the personalised-learning module, the government has allocated Rs 70 lakh. The minister also stated, "No more will students be called slow-learners," indicating a shift away from labelling students based on learning pace.
