Tamil Nadu to set up mineral resources development corporation
Tamil Nadu will establish a new public sector undertaking to manage mining and mineral sales, alongside a digital command centre and drone-based monitoring.
Tamil Nadu Minister for Natural Resources T.K. Prabhu announced in the State Assembly that the government will set up Tamil Nadu Mineral Resources Development Corporation Limited, a new Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Companies Act 2013. The Minister made the announcement while replying to the discussion on the demand for grants for the Natural Resources Department.
The new corporation will undertake mining operations, mineral extraction, quality enhancement, import, value addition, marketing and sale of minerals. The Minister also said an integrated command and control centre for mineral management will be established with modern digital infrastructure. This centre will monitor and manage all mineral-related processes in real time, from production to end use. Additionally, a monitoring unit using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will be set up as part of the initiative.
