The Tamil Nadu government withdrew a directive that asked education and police departments to prevent school and college students from joining protests and agitations, including those organised by Left parties and the Tamil Nadu Cockroach Janata Party. The withdrawal came within 24 hours of the directive, according to an order issued by the Department of Collegiate Education.

The Tamil Nadu government has withdrawn a directive that sought coordinated action to prevent school and college students from participating in protests and agitation programmes. The directive had been addressed to the School Education, Higher Education and police departments, as well as district administrations, and specifically covered protests organised by Left parties and the Tamil Nadu Cockroach Janata Party (TNCJP).
In an order issued on Tuesday, Joint Director of Collegiate Education Cynthia Selvi P said the department’s earlier communication on the matter, dated August 17, had been withdrawn. The order was addressed to the principals of all government arts and science colleges.
The withdrawal came within 24 hours of the original directive, according to the department's action.
