Redevelopment work at Thanjavur railway station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, launched at Rs 21.17 crore in August 2023, is still unfinished. Some components, including a new parcel office and terminal renovation, have been completed, but other planned work remains pending.

Redevelopment work at Thanjavur railway station, taken up under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), is still incomplete three years after it began. The project was launched at a cost of Rs 21.17 crore, with the foundation stone laid on August 6, 2023. It was originally scheduled to be completed in 18 months.
The planned work includes installing comprehensive platform shelters, constructing new arrival and parcel facilities, and renovating the existing terminal building. The project also involves developing a road in front of the station with dedicated parking infrastructure and pedestrian walkways.
According to officials, the new parcel office building was completed about a year ago and is now in operation. The existing terminal building has also been renovated. However, the remaining work, including the platform shelters and the road development, has not been finished, and the project has missed its scheduled completion deadline.
