Tiruchy district's first dialysis centre at PHC to open in Kulumani
A haemodialysis centre is being set up at the upgraded primary health centre in Kulumani, Andhanallur, in Tiruchy district. With five dialysis machines and capacity for about 30 patients per week, it aims to ease access for rural patients and reduce the load on MGMGH.
Tiruchy district's first haemodialysis centre at a primary health centre (PHC) will be established at the Upgraded PHC in Kulumani, Andhanallur. The 1,500-sq-ft facility will have five dialysis machines and can cater to around 30 beneficiaries a week, according to district health officials.
Patients requiring dialysis will first undergo consultation at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) before being referred to Kulumani. A nephrologist who visits PHCs across the district will also be available at Kulumani on a designated day.
Officials said the centre will reduce the burden on patients in rural areas who would otherwise have to travel to MGMGH each time for treatment. It is also expected to ease the workload at MGMGH. Those who require regular dialysis can opt for treatment at the new centre after consulting a nephrologist.
