Changes to the driving test system at Tiruchy West Regional Transport Office, including removal of the H-track, have raised pass rates but slowed licence issuance, according to driving school owners who cite manpower shortages.

The Tiruchy West Regional Transport Office (RTO) has seen a rise in driving test success rates since the removal of the H-track, but driving licence issuance has slowed considerably, according to driving school owners. The changes were made last month following an order by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court. The automated test track now uses only the slope and reverse parking components, with the H-track, previously criticised for design flaws, removed. Members of the Light and Heavy Driving School Welfare Association attribute the slowdown to inadequate manpower and operational challenges. John Martin, secretary of the association, said the earlier manual testing system was more efficient.
