Law Minister Nirmal Kumar alleged black money and real estate interests behind opposition to scrapping the Parandur airport project; DMK MLA Thangam Thennarasu hit back and said the Airports Authority of India selected the site.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly witnessed sharp exchanges between the ruling TVK and the opposition DMK over the state government's decision to scrap the Parandur airport project. Law Minister C T R Nirmal Kumar alleged that “G Square Mappillai” had benefited from the proposal and that those who had invested black money in real estate were opposing the scrapping. DMK MLAs stood up and shouted in protest.
Responding, DMK MLA Thangam Thennarasu condemned the minister's remarks and asked, “For which lottery son-in-law is the new airport project being developed?” He also said, “We can also pay back in your own coin,” and noted that the final project location was selected by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
