Chennai: Tamil Nadu Prohibition and Excise Minister K Vignesh said on Thursday that the government led by the TVK will not yield to pressure tactics designed to allow a monopoly of certain liquor brands or corruption, including maximum retail price (MRP) violations, in Tasmac outlets.
Speaking after releasing the list of 717 liquor shops that have been closed in Tamil Nadu since the TVK government was formed, the minister said the recent measures in the department were aimed at giving equal opportunity to stakeholders and eradicating monopoly.
Vignesh said the government will meet Tasmac workers' union representatives on Monday and will consider their demands to end MRP violations. He added that anyone using pressure tactics to facilitate corruption will face consequences.
In the state assembly, opposition MLAs had demanded the list of 717 closed shops with specific details, the minister said.
