Provisional allotments in the second round of Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2026 crossed 89,000, filling less than 45% of available seats—a drop of about 4.5% from the same stage last year. Career counsellors expect several thousand seats to remain vacant after counselling ends.

According to figures released by TNEA authorities, a little less than 89,000 students had received provisional allotments by the end of the second counselling round, accounting for under 45% of the total engineering seats available in Tamil Nadu. This marks a drop of roughly 4.5% in seat allotments compared to the same stage of admissions last year.
Career counsellors following the engineering admission process said the trend could result in several thousand seats remaining vacant once counselling concludes. They also noted that student preferences were largely concentrated in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Electronics and Communication streams.
