Vellore Corporation demolished 60 structures, mostly shops, along Arcot Road near Christian Medical College Hospital to restore road width and improve traffic flow, especially for ambulances.
The Vellore Corporation on Tuesday demolished 60 structures, mostly commercial buildings and shops, along the congested Arcot Road near the Christian Medical College (CMC) Hospital. Officials said the demolition was part of a plan to restore the original width of the stretch and ensure easy movement of vehicles, particularly ambulances. The removal of encroachments is expected to add between 15 and 40 feet of road space, after which the road will be re-laid for motorists. The drive was aimed at improving safety for road users, as thousands of people, many from other states, visit hospitals on the stretch.
