WRD says Mordhana Dam canals desilted before water release in Vellore
The Water Resources Department (WRD) said canals of Mordhana Dam in Vellore were desilted before releasing water for irrigation, responding to an MP's claim that desilting was incomplete.
The Water Resources Department (WRD) has stated that the left and right main canals of Mordhana Dam in Vellore were desilted before the scheduled release of water for irrigation. Water was released for nine days, up to September 1, to fill downstream tanks based on farmers' requests, according to an assistant engineer in the Gudiyatham section of WRD. A 20-member team carried out periodical maintenance of the dam before the release.
The statement came after Vellore MP D.M. Kathir Anand claimed in a press release that the canals and feeder channels had not been completely desilted, which could affect water flow, especially in tail-end areas. WRD did not directly address the MP's allegation but affirmed that maintenance had been completed.
