China has dismissed Nepal's assertion that the collapse of a 'geological disaster dam' on the Chinese side caused the massive flooding in Nepal. The Chinese embassy in Nepal described the claim as 'fake news', including the allegation that China had failed to provide an early warning to Nepal, resulting in significant casualties.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the embassy said an earthquake or earthquake-like glacier collapse occurred on the Nepali side on the morning of August 26, triggering huge mudslides. This caused significant casualties and left people missing on both the Nepali and Chinese sides of the Gyirong-Rasuwagadhi border region.

China concluded its statement with the remarks: 'Accusation helps nothing' and 'cooperation saves lives.' The exact cause of the disaster remains disputed between the two countries.
