Congo's Ebola outbreak has killed more than 3,000 people among over 6,100 confirmed cases, according to health ministry data, and is spreading faster than efforts to contain it.

Data from Congo's Ministry of Health shows the Ebola outbreak has recorded 6,186 confirmed cases, including 3,007 deaths, since it was declared a global health emergency in mid-May. The disease is spreading at an unprecedented speed, outpacing efforts to track and slow it, making it the fastest-growing Ebola outbreak on record.
A resident of Bunia who fled from Mambassa in Ituri province, the epicenter of the outbreak, said he did not feel safe and that he hardly saw health workers. He also reported that infected bodies were being mishandled, raising additional safety concerns.
