A fire at a gas chemical complex in Russia's far eastern Amur region has killed seven people and left nine Chinese workers missing, the plant said on Wednesday. Six of the dead were Chinese nationals. The fire broke out on Tuesday and was later extinguished, according to the plant's statement on Telegram.
The plant said 152 people were treated for injuries, with 36 taken to hospitals. An emergency services plane was sent to transport the injured to other hospitals in Russia.
The complex, described by its operators as one of the world's largest producers of polyethylene and polypropylene, is a joint project between Russian company Sibur and Chinese oil and gas company Sinopec. It had not yet begun operations and was still in preparation at the time of the incident.
