A landslide in Nepal's Darchula district has partially blocked the Chamelia River, creating an artificial lake. Officials warn that a sudden breach could flood areas along the Kali River on both sides of the India-Nepal border.

A large landslide has partially blocked Nepal's Chamelia River in Darchula district, creating an artificial lake and raising concerns of flash floods along the Kali River on the Indian side of the border. The landslide occurred at Bhattad in Ward No. 1 of Api Himal Rural Municipality. Debris has obstructed the river's flow, and water has been accumulating upstream as heavy rainfall continues. The Chamelia joins the Kali River near Simpani on the Indian side and Sera in Nepal. From there, the Kali flows downstream through border towns including Jhulaghat and Pancheshwar before reaching Tanakpur. Officials fear that if the natural embankment breaches suddenly, the accumulated water could enter the Kali and trigger flooding in riverside areas of both countries.
