Meta executive testifies about teen safety tools in US states' lawsuit

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram at Meta, testified in a California court on Tuesday that he publicly promoted newly launched teen safety tools without disclosing their low adoption rates from early testing years earlier. The testimony came in a trial brought by a coalition of 29 US states accusing Meta of designing its products to addict children and collect their data while misleading the public.
During questioning by Jason Slothouber, a lawyer with the Colorado Attorney General's office, Mosseri discussed the tools known as Take a Break and Quiet Mode, launched in 2021 and 2023 respectively. The trial entered its second week on Monday and is expected to run through late September. Meta has more than three billion users worldwide.
