Meta announced it would pay $18 billion to settle a case filed by multiple US states over insufficient safety features for teenage users. The settlement came during the second week of what was expected to be a six-week trial and followed the risk of damages up to $1.4 trillion. Meta denied any wrongdoing but announced a series of new measures it said it would implement for the security and well-being of teenage users. The trial could have featured testimony from witnesses including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
