A mudslide at the Gyirong Port border crossing between China and Nepal in Tibet's Gyirong County caused major casualties and missing persons, Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported. The mudslide occurred on the Nepalese side at approximately 10:30 AM (0230 GMT) on August 26, according to Xinhua. Roads leading to the port on the Chinese side, as well as communications and power supplies, were cut off. Search and rescue operations were underway. Chinese President Xi Jinping urged all-out efforts to search for the missing and called for strengthening monitoring and early warning systems to prevent secondary disasters.
